Our animal companions become part of the family from the day we welcome them into our homes. Loving, sentient beings, each with their own personalities and character traits; they are intelligent, sensitive and resourceful and can communicate their needs, likes and dislikes, emotions (as well as reading and responding to our emotions), offering love and companionship with little expectation.
We can learn a lot from our animals; particularly patience, unconditional love, the art of play and mindfulness.
Just as we feel honoured to have shared in their lives with them, so too it seems fitting that we should honour and remember them with dignity and respect once they are gone.
Without them, the pain of loss is just as real and profound as it is losing any other significant and beloved family member. This is why the chance to honour their lives by way of Ceremony, Memorial, Interment or Scattering of Ashes is so important.
There is no doubt the action of Ceremony supports the healing process for the whole family too, allowing permission to mourn and say a final farewell, whilst also preparing to think about moving forward with fond memories which you will always have of your pet.
With no set format to follow, an Independent Celebrant is the perfect choice to support you in ensuring your Ceremony places your beloved pet at its heart, finding the words and sentiment that capture who they were, what they meant, how much they were loved and will be missed.
The Ceremony can take place at a time, day and place of your choosing and can include readings, poems, music, ritual; indeed, anything of most significance and meaning to you.
Please do not hesitate to get in touch if this is something you would like to consider for a pet you have lost. I would love to support you in paying homage to them.
